If you eat out often, you eat a lot of palm oil — usually without knowing it. It's the quiet default in a huge amount of everyday and budget cooking, precisely because it's cheap and shelf-stable. At WowZayka, we made a simple decision early on: leave it out.
Why palm oil is everywhere
Palm oil shows up so often for reasons that have nothing to do with your health: it's inexpensive, it's stable at high heat, and it lasts. For a kitchen optimising purely for cost, it's the obvious pick. That's exactly why it ends up in so much cheap, mass-produced food — and why most people are eating far more of it than they'd choose to.
It's also very high in saturated fat. As an occasional thing, fine — but as the invisible base of food you eat every single day, it's not what we'd want on our own plates.
The choice we made
Food you eat daily should be cooked in something better than the cheapest option on the shelf. So WowZayka cooks without palm oil, using healthier oils instead. It costs a little more and it's a little more work — and for daily home-style food, it's worth it.
This isn't a health-fad claim or a miracle promise. It's a small, honest standard: the oil your everyday meal is cooked in shouldn't be chosen just because it's cheap.
More of this to come
"No palm oil" is one piece of a bigger idea — that the food you rely on every day should be made the way you'd make it at home, not the way that's cheapest to mass-produce. We'll keep being specific and open about what goes into your meals as we grow.
